Archbishop Sheen explains a centurion was the first non-Jew in the Catholic Church. A centurion was declared by Our Lord to be of more faith than anyone in Israel. A centurion pierced Our Lord’s side with a lance. The Holy Ghost chose centurions to be His instruments many times during Our Lord’s life. Doubtless, soldiers are close to God in a very particular way. Archbishop Sheen gave this talk to the cadets at West Point, the U.S. Army Military Academy in New York.
