Carol Long develops the theme of the connection of theological and spiritual revival with the growth of Baroque Art in general. The Council of Trent and its “postconciliar” spirit are shown to link up with that unique artistic effort to raise all of nature “to the greater glory of God” also closely associated with the Jesuits.
