Saint Hyacinth was a Dominican who earned the title Apostle of the North for his successful evangelization efforts in Poland, Prussia, Pomerania, Lithuania, Demark, Sweden, Norway and lower Russia. He founded several convents and monasteries and died a saintly death August 15, 1257 in Cracow. After his death God glorified His servant with many miracles and Hyacinth was canonized in 1594. He is the patron saint of weight lifters and those in fear of drowning.
