The Forgotten Encyclical: “Humani Generis”

Fr. Miceli offers an analysis of Humani Generis and its significance today. In this sermon, Father Vincent Miceli, S.J., discusses Humani Generis, the “Forgotten Encyclical” promulgated on 12 August 1950 “concerning some false opinions threatening to undermine the foundations of Catholic Doctrine.” The pope clarified Church teaching on the following four topics: Nouvelle théologie, Evolution, Polygenism, and critiques of the Old Testament. Father Miceli argues that this encyclical’s clarifications and teachings make it worthy of further study in today’s modern world.
